Interactions between Selective Attention and Visuospatial Working Memory

The relationship between selective attention and visuospatial working memory has traditionally been discussed as operating in one direction,i.e.,attention selects only limited information into working memory.However,recent studies have suggested an important link operating in the opposite direction: the contents of visuospatial working memory will influence the allocation of selective attention.Selective attention is directed toward locations or objects held in visuospatial working memory,and is the necessary modulation for working memory to accurately maintain spatial or object information.Research on the interactions between selective attention and visuospatial working memory may provide a good way for future investigations of the interrelations between space-and object-based attention.
