The Cycle of Violence

SUMMARY

An integrative clinical model is described, entitled TARET Systems. This model has been applied in the treatment of male batterers and their partners. This paper applies the approach to an expanded version of the cycle of violence from three to four stages. A rationale for therapeutic interventions is presented for each stage utilizing a brief, solution focused approach within the broader cognitive-behavioral systems stress framework. Professional dilemmas are discussed throughout the paper.
