Grey Literature in Health Sciences: New Challenges for the Development of Medical Information Resources in the Environment of Open Science

Open science emphasizes the open sharing of the whole process and all elements of scientific research besides the final scientific publications. The scientific materials and data other than peer-reviewed publications are called grey literature. Grey literature has unique value in scientific research, especially in the field of biomedicine, such as eliminating publication bias, promoting information transparency, supporting repeated tests, and enhancing research integrity. Medical grey literature can be divided into four categories: conventional type, data type, network type, and historical and special collections. In the development and utilization of medical grey literature, there are also challenges such as intellectual property rights, data privacy, and quality control. Therefore, the construction and management of medical grey literature in the era of open science has important academic value for the development of medical research and digital health.
