Abstract: | The relationship between certain personality scores and meditation practice is reviewed. Overall, there is no compelling evidence that practice significantly changes psychometric scores. However, practice does appear to be associated with reported increases in self-actualization and, perhaps, with decreased depression. It is concluded that, although meditation practice may be rewarding in some respects, those who appear to report the most benefit are those who need intervention least in terms of psychological profile. This is because those who maintain practice tend to report relatively low levels of psychological maladjustment. |
