Abstract: | It was hypothesized that firstborns express greater preference for reading and consultation with authorities when in need of information than middle-born or last-born adolescents. A scale was constructed which measured preferences for reading, consultation with authorities, consultation with nonauthorities, dependence upon authorities, thinking, and observation. Firstborn high school students expressed greater preference for reading for information than did middle-born and last-born students. There were no other birth-order effects. |
