Communication After Job Transfers
Authors:MICHAEL W. KRAMER
Abstract:This study explores the role of communication in the adjustment process of transferees during the first 3 months at new locations. Research questions and hypotheses are based on social exchange theory. Through content analysis of interview data, descriptions of the process by which transferees learn their roles were developed. Longitudinal questionnaire data were used to explore the impact of feedback and communication relationships on adjustment and the impact of social support as a buffer against unmet expectations. Results suggest the importance of communication during the transfer process.
