Chapter 3: Beyond the Symptoms: Generalizations and Distinctions between Eating Disorders with Different Symptom Manifestations in Psychoanalysis

ABSTRACT

In this article, I attempt to describe in detail the eating disorders of anorexia and bulimia. Although often lumped together as the same kind of eating-disordered pathology, I explore, in part by using my personal experience, how their origins and symptoms are different and why their psychoanalytic treatment modalities need to be responsive to these differences.
