荀子哲学作为一个经验论的形态,为儒学的发展开启了一个新的哲学范式。就儒学而言,荀学经验论所带来的并不是对“道”的离弃和背叛,而是学问进路与方法的创新。从“道统”的角度说,荀学与孟学的关系是:“道”同而“术”不同。

A Tentative Study on the characteristics of Xunzi' s Philosophy and Its significance in Terms of Confucian Orthodoxy (Daotong)

As doctrine of empiricism, Xunzi's philosophy has brought for the development of Confucianism a new philosophical schema. Xunzi s empiricism is, therefore, not a deviation from or a betrayal against the " orthodoxy" with regard to Confucianism, but a new orientation and a new method for the advancement of learning. Viewed from the perspective of orthodoxy , the philosophical relationship between Xunzi and Mencius is that they are the same with each other as far as "orthodoxy" is concerned, yet different from each other in terms of method .
