Abstract: | An animal model for human panic attacks is presented, based on the abortive avoidance activity displayed by rats undergoing flooding. A shortcoming of the model is discussed. Methods for suppressing such abortive avoidance activity (‘panic’) are reviewed, including pharmacological and behavioural methods. |
