Abstract: | Summary Adaptation to optical distortion was produced by viewing, through prisms, the trajectory of a dim point light source moved by the leg in an otherwise darkened room. The results show that such a minimal prism exposure condition produces adaptive sensorimotor shifts that alter 1. eye-foot coordination, entailing the contralateral and the ipsilateral leg, as well as 2. eye-hand coordination and 3. ego-centric localization. Generalization of adaptation produced by the minimal exposure condition was equal to that produced by the more customary prism exposure procedure, although its magnitude was somewhat smaller. This study was supported by an NIH-Biomedical grant from the University of Georgia. |
