| Abstract: | The 'health and prosperity gospel' of the so-called 'Faith ministries' can be regarded as one of the fastest growing religious movements on a global scale. This article seeks to explore the symbolic significance of the healing practices of this distinct form of neo-Pentecostalism originating in North America. The principal emphasis is upon their healing meetings and the dramatisation of the core beliefs and values of one typical Faith ministry. The article is based upon ethnographic research and presents a comment on the nature of some contemporary forms of evangelical Christianity that bring a syncretic mixture of fundamentalism and this-worldly concerns. |
