Abstract: | Contradictory evidence exists concerning the mode by which a fluent bilingual stores and retrieves words in each of his languages. A study of linguistically mixed lists by a procedure where errors in judgment could be detected suggests that storage is shared but is organized and retrieved primarily through the bilinguals' first language. This work was supported in part by NICHD Research Career Development Award No. HD 36835 to the author. |
