Perfectionists: Study of a Criterion Group
Authors:Robert B Slaney  Jeffrey S Ashby
Abstract:The literature on perfectionism was reviewed and was found to be primarily based on a biased sample of perfectionists in treatment and a negative perception of perfectionism related to common definitions. This negative set also influenced the empirical attempts to measure the construct. Based on these conclusions, the present study was designed to examine perfectionism by locating and interviewing a sample of participants who either considered themselves to be perfectionists or were considered to be perfectionists by others who knew them well. Results are presented and discussed along with suggestions for further research and the implications for counseling.
