Abstract:This paper discusses the value of the concepts of entropy and negentropy in assisting our understanding of destructive and constructive energy shifts in communication, with particular emphasis on examining entropic-negentropic processes in disordered family communication during adolescence. The concepts are defined, their operation in life in general is discussed, and three clinical case examples are presented.1979, FallPaper presented at the 3rd Reunion: Panamerican Forum for the Study of Adolescence, Mexico D.F., Mexico, Feb. 4, 1975.Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, Jefferson Medical College; Visiting Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Hahnemann Medical College; Emeritus Director Clinical School, Family Institute of Philadelphia; Senior Attending, Institute of the Pennsylvania Hospital.
