Abstract: | Theoretical prediction of the influence of liquid-state diffusion on the joint microstructure developed during transient liquid phase (TLP) bonding of dissimilar superalloys, based on asymmetric numerical simulation model, is experimentally verified. A new understanding of the diffusional solidification mechanism during TLP bonding has enabled the formation of a single-crystal (SX) joint microstructure between dissimilar polycrystalline and SX substrates, which is considered unachievable by conventional TLP bonding theoretical models. |
