English palindromes: A distributional model |

| Abstract: | A list of English palindromes that approaches comprehensiveness is given. A stochastic model for the distribution of palindromes within the language is proposed. The model relates frequencies of palindromes and of heteropalindromes (Jones, 1980) as a function of word length, and it is shown to predict accurately the actual numbers of palindromes that occur. |
