Systematic desensitisation: A case-history including some developments in the use of fantasy

A method is explained combining relaxation training, fantasy journey material and a Gestalt technique to achieve an alternative way of carrying out systematic desensitisation. The method is explained in relation to an account of work with a female client experiencing anxiety with birds. This form of programme can successfully avoid the mechanical processes of the behavioural approach, thus giving both the client and the therapist a creative role in the therapeutic process.
