Accounting for Poverty: From Attribution to Discourse
Authors:DAVID J. HARPER
Abstract:In this article it is argued that the attributional literature concerning explanations of poverty is inadequate due to its theoretical presuppositions. It is proposed that a discursive approach is better able to withstand criticism and contribute to a more adequate understanding of poverty accounts. Some examples are given of how a discursive approach might work in practice.
Keywords:attribution  discourse analysis  explanations of poverty
