Abstract:Psychodiagnostic testing is being belabored by behavioristic psychologists for being a poor predictor of behavior and by humanistic psychologists for being a discriminatory procedure. It is also being alleged that psychodiagnosis serves little purpose, is tied to an anachronistic model of diagnosis, and is no longer being used or taught to any great extent. These criticisms are refuted by a clarification of the role psychodiagnostic assessment serves in personality appraisal, and survey data are adduced to indicate that psychodiagnosis is very much alive and well in contemporary clinical psychology.
