Once again it has been demonstrated that children's verbal behavior changes as a function of social approval. There is no indication, however, that the number of choice-alternatives (within the limits of two to six alternatives) in the experimental task has any effect upon the rate of change or upon the frequency of Ss verbalizing awareness. It appears that more children can or will verbalize awareness of the response-reinforcement contingency when an expanded and more suggestive inquiry is used. A greater rate of change in verbal behavior was found in Ss who do verbalize awareness as compared to those who do not.
