Institution: | 1. Aaron O. Ammons is a well-respected poet/spoken-word artist and activist. Ammons is the current civic engagement coordinator and host of SPEAK Cafe, a collaboration between the Krannert Art Museum and the Department of African-American Studies at the University of Illinois. “Brotha A-Dub,” as he is commonly known, was the featured artist in the Bone-yard Arts Festival in 2005 and 2009 and he is the author of two books of poetry: Journey Through Another Man's Mind (2004) and As I Travel My Creation (2010). In 2006–2007 Aaron taught poetry to sixth-grade African-American boys at Campus Academy and assisted them in writing and publishing their own compilation of poems titled Gone CA'zy: The Future of Young Hip-Hop Poets. Aaron's work has been published in various journals such as The Griot and The Black Scholar, and he is a frequent contributor to a local newspaper, The Public (i). He is the featured artist on a new CD released on February 6, 2014, called The ILL Poets Society Volume II;2. The Aaron Ammons Project and he is working on his third book of poetry. |
