Abstract:This study addressed entrepreneurship from the perspective of Holland's theory of career development. Sixty-four male entrepreneurs were interviewed and administered Holland's Vocational Preference Inventory. The respondents were classified as either Craft Entrepreneurs or Opportunistic Entrepreneurs, and the characteristics of the two groups were compared. The results of this study indicated that the Craft Entrepreneurs can be described as having a Holland occupational code of ERA, and the Opportunistic Entrepreneurs can be described as having a Holland occupational code of EAI. It is recommended that additional research should investigate self-employment as a distinct career option.
