Abstract: | Os’ performance in the detection of increments and decrements in the intensity of a pure tone was compared with their performance in an increment-decrement recognition experiment. Recognition performance improved, relative to detection performance, as signal duration increased. This is surprising from the point of view of all stimulus models within signal detection theory. These data and others are described in terms of a change detection mechanism. |
