Partial death as a defining characteristic of a subculture

This paper presents a discussion of the idea of "partial death" as it relates to the subculture of the beats or hypsters, especially in San Francisco, from about 1948 to 1964, with special emphasis on the works of Kerouac and Ginsberg and a study by Rigney and Smith.
