Thinking about Growth Pattern for Low Birth Weight Infant

The incidence of low birth weight is an important marker for society development and health care of woman and child. Low birth weight riot only increases the mortality of neonate and the morbidity of early childhood, but also has close relation to the long--term prognosis of children such as growth retardation, impaired intelligence, and metabolic syn- dromes in adulthood. Here, we discuss the growth characteristics of low birth weight infant, pros and cons of catch--up growth and nutritional management, to find a suitable growth pattern for low birth weight infant and improve their short-- term and long--term quality of life.
