Abstract: | Contingency contracting was used to engender motivation, and covert sensitization to eliminate drug usage, in an unmotivated 19-year-old client who was addicted to a number of different drugs (but primarily heroin), and who was incarcerated for a number of drug-related offences, including thefts and aggravated burglaries. The offence behaviour related specifically to obtaining drugs from chemist's shops was modified over a 3-month period. A 24-month follow-up study showed no return to drug use and no further drug-related convictions. |
