Abstract: | Abstract When cheating was available as a means of reducing an unfavorable comparison between self and an external standard of competence among New Zealand undergraduates, self-awareness (induced by mirrors) was found to increase cheating on the task. The use of an external standard of competence in this experiment extends earlier research that focused on internal standards based on intraself comparison. |
