Prevention of Postoperative Local Recurrence of Rectal Cancer

Postoperative local recurrence of rectal cancer is a focal and difficult clinical problem. To prevent local recurrence, preoperative staging of the tumor and evaluation of patients are prerequisite, radical surgery with total mesorectum excision is criticality to ensure incised margin negative and circumferential resection margin complete, no residual cancer. Neoadjuvant therapy is useful for decrease of local recurrence rate of T3 and T4 rectal cancer. Multidisciplinary team could play an important role in the prevention of local recurrence of rectal cancer.
