A substantive and methodological review of couples group therapy outcome research

Outcome research on couples' group therapy is reviewed and discussed in terms of substantive findings and relevant methodological components. Research to date has found couples group therapy to be as effective as either individual, conjoint, or non-spouse group formats. These results, however, are based on the findings of only five studies, all of which displayed methodological limitations. Suggestions for future research involving couples groups are discussed.
