The Position and Roles of Nurse Specialist in Management of Diabetes Mellitus

The metabolic control status is still worrisome in patients with diabetes even treated with most advanced techniques or drugs. Innovative alternatives highly needed. One of these findings is that the metabolic control managed by nurses is better than those by physicians. Therefore, the role of nurses in the conjugated system of diabetes management is recognized recently. Diabetes education and managing centers were setup. Almost all professional societies invited nurses as their constitutive members. In this review, the authors reviewed the current opinions and results of recent important studies participated by nurses, and the importance role of nurses in the management of diabetes was delineated.
