Take Advantage of TCM in Symptom Management in CancerlDiScussing about Disease and Syn- drome Combination Treating in Colon and Rectal Cancer

Relieving symptoms or signs is the advantage of TCM treatment in end stage malignant tumor, but obviously symptomatic treatment cannot show the characteristic of TCM. On the other hand, although syndrome differentiation is the core of TCM treatment, it cannot support us to make sure of the nature of a disease theoretically and clinically. However, if we only depend on disease differentiation and therefore ＂counteract toxin with another＂ in cancer treatment, symptoms and prognosis cannot be improved. In this passage, using colon and rectal cancer as an example, the writer believes that paying attention to chief complaints and combining differentiation of disease with syndrome can allow us to better manage the relationships among symptoms or signs, syndrome and disease, so as to improve symptoms or signs and prolong the survival period simultaneously.
