Nevin's scholarly and timely discussion attempts to maintain the precarious union of the experimentally derived theory of behavioral momentum with applications of the behavioral momentum construct to human subjects in applied settings. Nevin's discussion adds much-needed clarification to a process that at times has proven to be awkward for applied researchers. In this commentary, we will address three general questions: (a) Can the applications of behavioral momentum be derived from the theory as conceptualized by Nevin? (b) Could those applications have been developed had the theory not been formulated? (c) Does behavioral momentum theory add significantly to the compliance literature?  相似文献

A dynamical model of the movements of the platform of a ski-simulator was derived from experimental data, using the graphical and statistical methods developed by Beek and Beek (Beek, P. J., & Beek, W. J. (1988). Human Movement Science, 7, 301–342). The data were collected in an experiment in which both amplitude and practice were manipulated. The data were filtered and further reduced to normalised cycles that were averaged within and across subjects. Graphical methods were applied to these averaged normalised cycles to determine the stiffness and friction terms to be included in the model. The relative contribution of each term was assessed by means of multiple regression. The model, which included cubic and quintic Duffing terms and one or two dissipative Van der Pol terms, accounted on average for 99.2% of the variance. The exact parameter setting of the model differed considerably across subjects. For one subject, a qualitatively different model, including Rayleigh instead of Van der Pol terms, provided a better account of the data. Systematic changes of the coefficients in the model, related to amplitude and the duration of practice, were evident.  相似文献

A study of weld cracking resistance during linear friction joining of a difficult-to-weld nickel-based superalloy was performed by Gleeble thermomechanical simulation coupled with an extensive microstructural analysis. It was found that crack-free welds produced by the supposedly solid-state joining technique of linear friction welding is not due to preclusion of grain boundary liquation as has been commonly assumed and reported. Instead, resistance to cracking can be related to a reduction in liquid stability by the imposed compressive strain during welding.  相似文献

Based on systematic surface observations, experimental measurements on the fatigue limits of differently oriented copper single crystals cyclically deformed at constant plastic strain amplitudes are summarized, and an orientation dependence of the fatigue limit is sketched. It was found that the fatigue limits of crystals depend mainly upon the low-strain-amplitude dislocation structures, which are characteristic of the particular crystal orientations. When multiple-slip deformation is the main mode of deformation and ultimately produces stable lowenergy dislocation structures such as labyrinth and cell structures, the fatigue limit can be improved notably.  相似文献

Rolling lubrication with spherical molecules working as ‘nanobearings’ has failed experimentally so far, without a full understanding of the physics involved and of the reasons why. Past model simulations and common sense have shown that molecules can only roll when they are not too closely packed to jam. The same type of model simulations now shows in addition that molecular rolling friction can develop deep minima once the molecule's peripheral ‘pitch’ can match the substrate periodicity, much as ordinary cogwheels do in a rack-and-pinion system. When the pinion-rack matching is bad, the driven molecular rolling becomes discontinuous and noisy, whence energy is dissipated and friction is large. This suggests experiments to be conducted by varying the rack-and-pinion matching. That could be pursued not only by changing molecules and substrates, but also by applying different sliding directions within the same system, or by applying pressure, to change the effective matching.  相似文献

The authors studied the effects of surface friction at the digit-object interface on digit forces and moments when 12 participants statically held an object in a 5-digit grasp. The authors changed low-friction contact (LFC) with rayon and high-friction contact (HFC) with sandpaper independently for each digit in all 32 possible combinations. Normal forces of the thumb and virtual finger (VF), an imagined finger with a mechanical effect equal to that of the 4 fingers, increased with the thumb at LFC or with an increase in the number of fingers at LFC. When the thumb was at LFC, the thumb tangential force decreased. The VF tangential force decreased when the number of fingers at LFC increased. The interaction of the local responses to friction and the synergic responses necessary to maintain the equilibrium explain the coordination of individual digit forces.  相似文献

Homogeneous amorphous and nanocrystalline phases formed in the nugget zone of a friction stir-processed Al–Cu–Mg alloy have been studied. X-ray diffraction analysis indicated a diffuse scattering peak with characteristics of an amorphous phase existed in the range 15°–29°. Further, TEM analysis proved the existence of an amorphous structure. Friction stir processing provides special physical conditions, such as high temperature, high hydrostatic pressure and large shear stress, which could induce the amorphization of the alloy.  相似文献
