Over the past three decades, research on the social dimensions of emotions has grown exponentially, particularly in the area
of “emotion management.” In this project, we will attempt to add to this body of research by studying the social aspects of
labeling or “instantiating” feelings. The data for the project come from televised red-carpet interviews conducted with celebrities
immediately prior to awards ceremonies. By focusing on the generic aspects of the emotional claims-making put forth by interviewers
and interviewees, we demonstrate how the labeling of emotions is an interpretive, interactive task.

Although sophistry has been characterized as separable from real philosophy, formal analysis does not work without it and
one cannot always identify just where philosophy leaves off and sophistry begins. Whether sophistry offers anything to thinking
reason has to do with what parties in dialogue do with sophistries. Sophistries can close down or open up philosophical perspectives, depending on the local work that sophistic
strategies accomplish. Such local work of philosophers is rarely available to analyses of docile texts, but they can be furthered
by ethnomethodological studies of illustrative philosophical argumentation presented and analyzed in videotaped format.

The aim of my paper is twofold. First, I show how the notion of phenomenal field can be used to examine, describe and understand
particular collective patterns pertaining to the everyday domain of our common social experience. Secondly, I outline the
role of the notion of “phenomenal field” in ethnomethodology. I briefly discuss Gurwitsch’s notion of functional meaning. After presenting the argument, I show “the locally achieved ordinariness of a common task”, that is the lining up of the
player of the two teams in the pitch, as an embodied coherence of figural contexture in its empirical perceptual details, as Garfinkel says.

Video Recording Practices and the Reflexive Constitution of the Interactional Order: Some Systematic Uses of the Split-Screen Technique 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Lorenza Mondada 《Human Studies》2009,32(1):67-99
In this paper, I deal with video data not as a transparent window on social interaction but as a situated product of video
practices. This perspective invites an analysis of the practices of video-making, considering them as having a configuring
impact on both on the way in which social interaction is documented and the way in which it is locally interpreted by video-makers.
These situated interpretations and online analyses reflexively shape not only the record they produce but also the interactional
order itself as it is documented. Dealing with practices of video-making not as a resource but as a topic, I explore a particular
editing practice, the use of the split-screen technique, consisting in combining various camera views within the same image.
This technique is now widely used in cinema, professional settings, TV, and social research. I focus on its uses in TV talk
shows and debates: through a systematic sequential analysis of the positions where split screen is introduced, I show that
directors do orient to the sequential features of interaction in using this technique and that, conversely, their uses of
split screen reveal their local understanding—and configuring—of what the interactional dimension of debates and interviews
consist of, for all practical purposes.

While previous methodological studies have suggested that coding is a useful technique for analyzing qualitative data, there
is a stark lack of discussion about the incongruities that inevitably arise as researchers accomplish the actual work of coding.
This article explores the complexities of the coding process, and how incongruities get resolved as researchers accomplish
the practical work of coding. Three primary themes emerged from this study: <creating agreement>, <maintaining the integrity
of the codes>, and <completing the work>. These three activities are grounded in the naturally evolving work of coding, and
are rendered visible through an ethnomethodological investigation into this work. 相似文献

This paper contributes to ongoing discussions on feminism and the analysis of discourse. In particular, I examine Celia Kitzinger’s
[(2000), Doing feminist conversation analysis. Feminism and Psychology, 10, 163–193 and (2002) Doing feminist conversation analysis. In P. McIlvenny (Ed.), Talking gender and sexuality. Amsterdam: John Benjamins Publishing Company.] claims to be engaged in “feminist conversation analysis.” This paper identifies
susceptibilities in her arguments at both the theoretical level and the level of data analysis. My argument is that Kitzinger
fails to appreciate the fact that her enterprise is basically a formal analytic one and that as such it is both radically
different from, and incommensurate with, ethnomethodology (EM) and conversation analysis (CA). Indeed her attempts to supplement
feminism with EM/CA are unnecessary and counterproductive from an EM/CA position insofar as they crucially undermine its integrity.
