The twisting somersault is a key skill in diving and gymnastics. The components of twist and somersault are defined with respect to anatomical axes, and combinations of multiples of half rotations of twist and somersault define specific twisting somersault skills. To achieve a twisting somersault skill twist must be continuous; otherwise oscillations in twist while somersaulting may be observed. The posture-dependent inertial properties of the athlete and the initial conditions determine if continuous or oscillating twist is observed. The paper derives equations for the amount of somersault required per half twist, or per twist oscillation, without making assumptions about the relative magnitudes of the moments of inertia. From these equations the skills achievable may be determined. The error associated with the common assumption that the medial and transverse principal moments of inertia are equal is explored. It is concluded that the error grows as the number of twists per somersault decreases, when the medial and transverse moments of inertia diverge, and when the longitudinal moment of inertia approaches either the medial or transverse moment of inertia. Inertial property data for an example athlete are used to illustrate the various rotational states that can occur.  相似文献

The current study used a novel within-subjects design to test for the effects of analytic thought (reasons analysis) on the quality of the resulting judgments, as well as on subsequent, unanalyzed judgments of the same stimuli. Participants rated eight Olympic dives at two points in time, 30 min apart, under both reasoning and control instructions, which were then correlated with the scores the dives received from the Olympic judges. Results revealed asymmetric effects of reasoning and non-reasoning strategies: reasoning impaired judgments even when the judgments had been previously made under control conditions, and participants’ two sets of ratings were more strongly correlated with each other when made under control conditions than when either set had been reasoned. Analyses of decision times and reason–judgment correlations suggest that the effects of analytic thought in this domain are partially due to a general shift in decision strategy, and not exclusively to biases in the content of generated reasons.  相似文献

An angle-driven computer simulation model of aerial movement was used to determine the maximum amount of twist that can be produced in a reverse 1½ somersault dive from a three-metre springboard using various aerial and contact twisting techniques. The segmental inertia parameters of an elite springboard diver were used in the simulations and lower bounds were placed on the durations of arm and hip angle changes based on recorded performances of twisting somersaults. A limiting dive was identified as that producing the largest possible odd number of half twists. Simulations of the limiting dives were found using simulated annealing optimisation to produce the required amounts of somersault, tilt and twist after a flight time of 1.5 s. Additional optimisations were then run to seek solutions with the arms less adducted during the twisting phase. It was found that the upper limits ranged from 3½ to 5½ twists with arm abduction ranges lying between 8° and 23°. Similar results were obtained when the inertia parameters of two other springboard divers were used. It may be concluded that a reverse 1½ somersault dive using aerial asymmetrical arm and hip movements to produce 5½ twists is a realistic possibility. To accomplish this limiting dive the diver needs to be able to coordinate the timing of configurational changes with the progress of the twist with a precision of 10 ms or better.  相似文献
