High-speed heavy plastic deformation of thin foils of fcc metals, including aluminium, is found to produce a high density of small vacancy clusters, in the form of stacking-fault tetrahedra. The dependences of the density of the clusters on the deformation temperature and deformation rate indicate the production of vacancy clusters from deformation-induced dispersed vacancies. Neither dislocations nor any indication of the reaction of dislocations are present in the regions containing a high density of vacancy clusters. A possible model is proposed that describes, at extremely high strain rates where dislocation generation is difficult, how a high concentration of point defects is produced by a large number of parallel shifts of atomic planes without dislocations. 相似文献
Alcohol use, acculturative stress, and drinking motivations of 262 students in English as a second language programs in a U.S. community college were explored. Alcohol consumption was generally low, but differences between two groups with different legal statuses indicate the need to consider subgroups of international students for research purposes. Multimorbidity, the presence of multiple health conditions that must be addressed, is a particularly difficult situation in patient management raising issues such as the use of multiple drugs and drug-disease interactions. Clinical Guidelines are evidence-based statements which provide recommendations for specific health conditions but are unfit for the management of multiple co-occurring health situations. To leverage these evidence-based documents, it becomes necessary to combine them. In this paper, using a case example, we explore the use of argumentation schemes to reason and combine evidence-based recommendations from clinical guidelines, expected effects, conflicts stemming from said recommendations, and preferences regarding treatment goals. We compare the results of reasoning using the schemes for practical reasoning and argument from negative consequences in the Carneades Argumentation System with those of ASPIC-G, an extension of the artificial intelligence system ASPIC+.
Formalising deontic concepts, such as obligation, prohibition and permission, is normally carried out in a modal logic with a possible world semantics, in which some worlds are better than others. The main focus in these logics is on inferring logical consequences, for example inferring that the obligation Oq is a logical consequence of the obligations Op and O (p → q). In this paper we propose a non-modal approach in which obligations are preferred ways of satisfying goals expressed in first-order logic. To say that p is obligatory, but may be violated, resulting in a less than ideal situation s, means that the task is to satisfy the goal p ∨ s, and that models in which p is true are preferred to models in which s is true. Whereas, in modal logic, the preference relation between possible worlds is part of the semantics of the logic, in this non-modal approach, the preference relation between first-order models is external to the logic. Although our main focus is on satisfying goals, we also formulate a notion of logical consequence, which is comparable to the notion of logical consequence in modal deontic logic. In this formalisation, an obligation Op is a logical consequence of goals G, when p is true in all best models of G. We show how this non-modal approach to the treatment of deontic concepts deals with problems of contrary-to-duty obligations and normative conflicts, and argue that the approach is useful for many other applications, including abductive explanations, defeasible reasoning, combinatorial optimisation, and reactive systems of the production system variety. 相似文献

We performed a confirmatory factor analysis for the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (FACES-III) using 3865 university students in Japan. We confirmed two factors as in the original version, but there were slight differences with the original one. Some items were deleted in order to obtain sufficient goodness-of-fit indexes in a series of confirmatory factor analyses. Moreover, items 11 "Our family, changes its way of handling tasks," 20 "Parents and children discuss in our family," and 15 "We shift household responsibilities," which were originally categorized as "adaptability" items, were loaded on the "cohesion" factor. 相似文献
The association of maternal smoking during pregnancy with neurobehavioral status was examined in 344 Japanese infants. Based on a questionnaire, their mothers were classified into three groups, Nonsmokers, Exsmokers, and Smokers. The Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale was administered three days after birth. Among the three groups, on the seven clusters and their 28 behavioral subscales there were no significant differences. The infants of Smokers had lower scores than those of Exsmokers and Nonsmokers on two behavioral items, general tone and peak of excitement. Calcium (Ca2+ ) plays an essential role in lymphocyte activation and maturation. Acute and chronic stress has been shown to modulate the lymphocyte immune response; but the relationship between cytosolic free Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+ ]i) and the immune response in lymphocytes following exposure to stress has not been examined. In the present study, we investigated the effects of acute restraint stress on [Ca2+ ]i and the proliferation of splenic lymphocytes from mice. We observed that 2 h of restraint significantly increased plasma corticosterone levels in mice. On examining [Ca2+ ]i and the proliferation ex vivo of splenic lymphocytes isolated from restraint-stressed mice using fura-2 and 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide, respectively, we found that acute restraint stress caused a significant increase in resting [Ca2+ ]i and significantly enhanced the ability of concanavalin A (Con A; a T-cell-selective mitogen) to increase [Ca2+ ]i but not that of lipopolysaccharide (LPS; a B-cell-selective mitogen). In addition, acute restraint stress significantly enhanced Con A-stimulated but not LPS-stimulated lymphocyte proliferation. Overall, there was a positive correlation between [Ca2+ ]i and T-cell proliferation following acute restraint stress. The enhancements of [Ca2+ ]i and T-cell proliferation were completely suppressed by verapamil (a Ca2+ channel blocker). These results suggest that acute restraint stress enhances Con A-stimulated T-cell proliferation by increasing [Ca2+ ]i via stimulation of Ca2+ entry. 相似文献
