Theory is little used in the prediction of physician cancer screening stage of change. Structural equation modeling was used to evaluate the theoretical predictors of stage of change to recommend colonoscopy among 235 urban physicians. Constructs from the theory of planned behavior, social-cognitive theory, and the transtheoretical model were systematically tested. As predicted, contextual factors, such as the physicians' ages, their race-ethnicities, patient race-ethnicity, and office-related barriers to preventive care were associated with stage of change through self-efficacy, normative beliefs, and negative behavioral beliefs. The findings demonstrate the relevance of these models to studying the behavior of physicians and support the development of interventions that are tailored to normative beliefs and specific physician cognitions for colonoscopy recommendation.  相似文献

Perceptual localization of visual stimuli flashed during saccades   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Subjects were asked to make a saccade to a visual target flashed in the dark during a prior primary saccade, and to report its apparent position by moving an adjustable light spot to that position. When targets were presented at the beginning of the primary saccade, subjects perceptually mislocated them in the direction of the saccade, whereas when targets were presented immediately before the end of the primary saccade, the flashed targets were mislocated in the opposite direction. The perceptually localized position of the target was primarily determined by its retinal position. However, at all actual and retinal positions of the target, the localized position shifted from the position that would be predicted if the location of the target was determined only by its retinal position to the prior primary saccade direction. The results were discussed in relation to extraretinal eye position signals. Subjects moved their eyes not to the actual position of the target, but to its apparent position. In some trials, there was a discrepancy between perceptual and oculomotor localization, which was interpreted as having been caused by the imprecise localization ability of the oculomotor system.  相似文献

To examine the role of current visual monitoring in the between-hand differences in skilled movements, eye movements and errors during bilateral tracing tasks were analyzed in 10 subjects. When subjects traced a horizontal course abductively with both hands, the subject's gaze followed the movement of the right hand, and more errors were observed on the left hand. When subjects traced a vertical course, where fine motor control for alteration of movement direction was necessary, more errors were shown on the left hand despite the alternate visual scan of the two hands. The results were interpreted as showing that the between-hand differences in skilled movements are primarily due to the left hand's poor ability in motor output, and that the differential efficiency in the use of visual monitoring becomes an important factor in the between-hand differences when symmetrical movements of both hands with a low degree of difficulty are required.  相似文献

This study investigated whether breastfeeding predicts offspring’s dispositional compassion and empathy from early adulthood to middle age. The parents of the participants (N = 1,394) of the Young Finns study answered questions about breastfeeding in 1983, and the participants’ compassion and empathy were evaluated in 1997‒2012 (participants were aged 20‒50 years). Breastfeeding did not predict the course of compassion or empathy in adulthood at the age of 20‒50 years. The associations remained non-significant, when adjusted for age, gender, socioeconomic factors, and a wide range of characteristics of the family environment (including mother’s gestational age; premature birth; birth weight; number of other children at home; parental mental disorder; parental relationship status; parental postnatal smoking; parental postnatal alcohol use; parenting behavior; and child’s externalizing behavior). In conclusion, breastfeeding seems not to predict offspring’s compassion or empathy in adulthood. The findings may present a hopeful perspective for children growing up with non-breastfeeding caregivers.  相似文献

Three experiments were conducted to explore how translational and radial background motion affected visual localisation. In experiment 1, subjects were asked to indicate the apparent position of a small spot of light flashing against a background of vertical stripes, at a varying point in time before and after rapid translational motion of the background to the left or right. When the spot was flashed before the background motion, subjects mislocalised it toward the central fixation point. An interesting finding was that this mislocalisation occurred in most cases when the background moved in the direction opposite to the visual half-field in which the spot was flashed. That is to say, a spot flashed on the right side of the fixation point was mislocalised when its background moved to the left, and not when it moved to the right; and the converse was also true. In experiment 2, concentric circles were used as the background, and moved in a contracting or expanding direction. The results indicated that mislocalisation toward the central fixation point occurred when a spot was flashed before contracting motion of the background. The same mislocalisation was observed for the spot flashed in the lower visual field, but not when it was flashed in the upper visual field (experiment 3). It is concluded that the mislocalisation is a visual illusion induced by a transient background motion toward the central fixation point.  相似文献

Tokachi sub‐prefecture in Hokkaido is one of the most famous dairy and crop farming regions in Japan. It is known that Tokachi is faced with various difficult problems such as soil degradation, water contamination and unpleasant odours because of the excessive use of chemical fertilizers and inappropriate treatment of livestock excretion. In this paper, we focus on Shihoro town where agricultural outputs are relatively large in Tokachi, and propose collaborative circulating farming with collective operations between arable and cattle farmers. Under the assumption that the decision‐maker in this problem is a representative of a farming organization who hopes for sustainable agricultural development and values the intentions of local residents including arable and cattle farmers in this region, we employ multi‐attribute utility theory in order to evaluate multiple alternatives of the farming management problem. Verbal probability expressions (e.g., it is possible or doubtful) convey not only vague numerical meanings (i.e., probability) but also semantic functions, called directionality. We performed two experiments to examine whether preferential judgments are consistent with numerical meanings of verbal probabilities regardless of directionality. The results showed that because of the effects of directionality, perceived degrees of certainty for verbal probabilities differed between a binary choice and a numerical translation (Experiment 1), and decisions based on a verbal probability do not correspond to those based on a numerical translation for verbal probabilities (Experiment 2). These findings suggest that directionality of verbal probabilities is an independent feature from numerical meanings; hence numerical meanings of verbal probability alone remain insufficient to explain the effects of directionality on preferential judgments.  相似文献

Three subjects were asked to judge the position of small spots of light flashed before, during or after rapid translational motion of the background grating pattern. Mislocalization of the spots was observed when the background moved during or immediately after presentation of the spot. In both cases, mislocalization always occurred in the direction of the fixation point. Furthermore, this mislocalization occurred only when the background moved in the opposite direction to the visual half-field in which the spot appeared. That is to say, a spot to the right of the fixation point was mislocalized when its background moved to the left, but not when it moved to the right, and the converse was also true. This finding was interpreted as reflecting a long-term adaptation to the optokinetic stimulation that we experience during forward and backward locomotion.  相似文献

Fitts’ law robustly predicts the time required to move rapidly to a target. However, it is unclear whether Fitts’ law holds for visually guided actions under visually restricted conditions. We tested whether Fitts’ law applies under various conditions of visual restriction and compared pointing movements in each condition. Ten healthy participants performed four pointing movement tasks under different visual feedback conditions, including full-vision (FV), no-hand-movement (NM), no-target-location (NT), and no-vision (NV) feedback conditions. The movement times (MTs) for each task exhibited highly linear relationships with the index of difficulty (r2 > .96). These findings suggest that pointing movements follow Fitts’ law even when visual feedback is restricted or absent. However, the MTs and accuracy of pointing movements decreased for difficult tasks involving visual restriction.  相似文献

Accuracy of the eye-position signal (EPS) in successive-saccade conditions was examined by analyzing the subject’s performance in tracking his gaze by pointing with his unobservable hand in the dark. The size of constant error in manual pointing was found to increase with the number of the component saccades and to be inversely proportional to the size of the largest component saccade. The results are interpreted as showing that, in successive-saccade conditions, subjects are not able to use the sum of EPSs from each component saccade, but rather use only the EPS from the largest component saccade.  相似文献
