The current emphasis on performance criteria in training programs and in professional services poses a threat to the humanistically oriented helper. Having been trained in the self-actualizing psychology of Maslow and Rogers, humanists equate competence-based education and counseling with behaviorism and therefore resist the demand for performance criteria and the adjunct behavioral principles. This article suggests a behavioral humanism as the desired solution to the dilemma and proposes some guidelines for formulating and implementing such a synthetic system without jeopardizing one's personal-professional integrity.  相似文献

This investigation examined the relationship between career aspiration-current occupation congruence and the career maturity of 134 undergraduates (103 women and 31 men) attending a large midwestern community college. Results revealed a significant relationship (p < .01) between aspiration-occupation congruence and two separate measures of career maturity.  相似文献

Principals' expectations on six counselor role dimensions were compared with ideal counselor roles as seen by counselor educators. The relationship of principals' training and practice in counseling to appropriate counselor role perceptions was also studied. Disagreement was found between principals and counselor educators on the role of the counselor in situations involving clerical tasks, confidentiality, personal-emotional counseling, and non-related counseling functions. Principals with some counseling training or experience were more similar to counselor educators in expectations concerning discipline, confidentiality, and clerical activity than those principals without counseling training experience. Yet all principals differed markedly from the ideal role as viewed by counselor educators.  相似文献
