The care project: The evaluation of group counselling as a therapeutic intervention for patients with rheumatoid arthritis 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
D. H. Balmer 《British Journal of Guidance & Counselling》1989,17(3):304-316
An evaluation of group counselling for patients with rheumatoid arthritis is reported. The evaluation is based upon qualitative and quantitative results. The two sets of results do not agree: the qualitative results show that group counselling is a therapeutic intervention, whilst the quantitative results show that it makes no difference. The two sets of results are introduced and discussed. It is argued that the qualitative results should be accepted, and the conclusion is drawn that group counselling is a therapeutic intervention for these patients. 相似文献

Various research projects have investigated the efficacy of counselling in medical settings. To date, there is no conclusive proof that counselling is an effective form of therapy. But previous research projects have often been limited in scope and design, and have not represented an appropriate means of making an accurate assessment. The study introduced here seeks to establish whether or not group counselling is a therapy for patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. The research aims to use the most effective elements of both scientific and new-paradigm methodologies to determine whether atherapeutic relationship exists. The paper outlines the background to the research and describes its development so far. 相似文献

HIV/AIDS counselling in medical related programmes focuses upon pre- and post-test counselling. The MRC programme in rural Uganda, a high prevalence area, began with pre- and post-test counselling, but as it was a community based programme this was not found to be adequate. As the programme developed, the counselling service became a way of strengthening the community to withstand the effects of HIV/AIDS. The paper describes the de-centralization of the counselling Programme from a medical centre to community centres. To monitor and evaluate the programme a set of quantitative and qualitative indicators were developed, these are introduced and discussed. 相似文献

This paper investigates the present WHO/GPA counselling aims which are based on a disease-centred approach. It argues that as the parameters of the pandemic have changed the present counselling aims are no longer as relevant. These aims need to be revised in the light of recent developments and should be based upon a person-centred approach. The new counselling aims concentrate upon improving an individual's self concept and self esteem and recommend that People With AIDS continue to participate in society to make a valid contribution and maximize their individual satisfaction. 相似文献

The CARE Project: The Developmental Stages of Group Counselling for Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
D. H. Balmer 《British Journal of Guidance & Counselling》1988,16(1):63-72
An account of the process of group counselling for patients with rheumatoid arthritis is given. Two groups met independently, with different counsellors, for one hour per week over six months. It was found that the process of group counselling followed four developmental stages. They were: ice-breaking and climate creation, information exchange, self-disclosure, and enhanced self-concept and self-esteem. These stages are discussed. 相似文献
