Four different multicomponent training packages were evaluated to increase the treatment integrity of parents implementing pediatric feeding protocols. In Study 1 we exposed 3 parents to a training package that consisted of written protocols (baseline), verbal instructions, therapist modeling, and rehearsal training. Results suggested that the package was successful in increasing treatment integrity of the feeding protocols to high levels. Study 2 investigated three different parent-training packages comprised of components used in Study 1. Two parents were exposed to written protocols, verbal instructions, and modeling; 2 parents were exposed to written protocols, verbal instructions, and rehearsal; and 2 parents were exposed to written protocols and verbal instructions. Results of Study 2 showed that each parent-training package produced very high treatment integrity. Follow-up data in the clinic and home for 5 participants suggested that the results were durable for up to 3 months. These results demonstrate a first step in the transfer and application of research findings into routine clinical practice because we evaluated several methods for training parents to implement behavioral feeding protocols, and we demonstrated that these methods resulted in high levels of treatment integrity in a controlled clinical setting. 相似文献

This article is an introduction to and analysis of experiments in localisation at Grahamstown Anglican Cathedral. To this end, three songs are presented, each composed or arranged by the junior choristers of the cathedral choir. The method of composition/arrangement is loosely based on experimental workshops conducted by David Dargie in the 1970s and 1980s with people across Southern Africa. The texts and music of the songs are analysed, with the express purpose of determining to what extent Southern African cultures have interacted with western cultures. A method of categorisation, derived from models developed by Huib Schippers and Akin Euba, is used to determine the depth of cultural contact. The author finds that in two of the songs there is evidence of creative and meaningful mingling of local and western cultures. The third song, being simply an arrangement of a local song, is more obviously Southern African, although it too shows influence of western harmonic conventions, albeit more superficially. 相似文献

Though Bonhoeffer is usually thought to have been one of the architects of modern theology, he was also one of modernity's most penetrating critics. The author lays out Bonhoeffer's challenges to certain cherished modern assumptions by examining (1) his linkage of totalitarianism to the political utopianism that arose out of the French Revolution, (2) his fear of the nihilistic implications of the rationalists' notion of the sovereign self and of the modern tendency to view life as an end in itself, and (3) his suspicion of all forms of moral absolutism, including the Kantian absolutizing of the duty to tell the truth. What emerges is a picture of Bonhoeffer as a theologian who coupled a keen sense of our creatureliness and limitation with a resolute belief in the activity of God in history, and of Bonhoeffer as an ethicist who generated a Christian relational ethics that offers an alternative to both the ethics of abstract principle and the ethics of intuitive situational response. 相似文献

In an era in which certain arenas of scientific research have become increasingly controversial, this article critically evaluates
what it means to “believe in science.” Many scientists today seem to claim a sovereign right to no political interference
under the rubric of freedom. This article questions such a notion, and explores the dominance of science and the silencing
of moral voices by undertaking two brief investigations—the first into National Socialist Germany, which insisted that it
was defined by “applied biology,” and the second into the world of contemporary American biomedicine. When all ethical barriers
are eradicated, it seems that a will to power takes over—manifested in Nazi Germany’s vaunted scientific autonomy. In light
of these sobering historical examples, this article reminds the reader that members of the public, including physicians, rightly
deliberate about how to conscientiously order their lives together, and that part of that instrinsically political deliberation is to set limits to the ways medical
science is applied and what scientists may do in pursuit of their goals.

In the current investigation, we evaluated the relative effects of noncontingent reinforcement (NCR), escape extinction, and a combination of NCR and escape extinction as treatment for the feeding problems exhibited by 4 children. For each participant, consumption increased only when escape extinction was implemented, independent of whether NCR was present or absent. These results were consistent with prior research suggesting that positive reinforcement alone is insufficient for increasing consumption, and that escape extinction often is necessary to increase and maintain food acceptance. However, NCR appeared to decrease inappropriate behavior for some participants. 相似文献
