The premise of Lin, Osman, and Ashcroft (this issue) is that nudge theory can be applied in all aspects of public life to improve people’s health and well-being. Unfortunately, the literature they present shows only a dismal empirical record of the effectiveness of nudging healthy behavior. In spite of the overwhelmingly positive tone of the authors, the successes attributed to nudge-based interventions in other domains cannot yet be made in the area of health and wellness. In fact, Lin et al.’s review suggests quite the opposite: nudging healthy behavior bears no fruit. 相似文献

When does random responding distort self-report personality assessment? An example with the NEO PI-R

Recent meta-analyses suggest that, notwithstanding almost 100 years of study, concerns about the impact of response biases on the validity of self-report personality scales remain to be justified. This study addresses the topic by demonstrating that random responding is indeed an issue for self-report personality scales, and that limitations associated with base rates exist that affect the ability of moderated multiple regression to evaluate fully the effects of a response bias. Overall, it is suggested that dismissing response biases as a concern for self-report personality assessment is premature when based only on a lack of significant regression moderator effects. 相似文献

The effectiveness of Snoezelen? multi-sensory stimulation treatment was evaluated with 50 psychiatric patients (25 men, 25
women) and 50 hospital employees (25 men, 25 women). Pre and post-treatment physiological responses (galvanic skin conductance
response, heart rate, and percentage blood oxygen) were compared and participants were evaluated post-treatment for perceived
psychological benefits with a nine-item questionnaire. Results indicate that participation in a single 20-minute Snoezelen?
session had significant and positive physiological effects on both the patient and staff groups. Also, post-treatment participants
in both groups did not perceive any change on the dimension reserved-outgoing but felt more sleepy, passive, relaxed, cheerful,
focused, optimistic, calm, and comfortable. Consequently, beneficial physiological and psychological Snoezelen? treatment
effects were apparent for both patients and controls. 相似文献

The present investigation explores how judgments of responsibility influence affective and helping reactions toward natural‐disaster victims. Guided by Weiner's (1995, 2006 ) theory of social motivation, we hypothesized that judging victims responsible for a disaster would indirectly lead to low rates of helping. Two studies tested this hypothesis. In Study 1, a bogus earthquake was used to test experimentally the effects of responsibility judgments (low, high). In Study 2, we surveyed attitudes about the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Our results showed that Weiner's model was supported across studies. Responsibility judgments led to anger and sympathy, and sympathy led to helping intentions, which in turn led to helping behavior. Comparisons across studies and the relationship between helping intentions and behavior are discussed. 相似文献

Recent research suggests that a general factor of personality (GFP) represents the zenith of a hierarchy of personality structure. For a roommate sample of 602 students, we evaluate the presence and validity of a general factor of personality in a Big Five measure. Findings indicate that a first factor, similar to what has been putatively labeled a GFP, can be extracted from self-report and observer-report, that this self-report first factor has validity for predicting an alleged observer-report GFP, and that this validity is not attributable to socially desirable responding. However, despite the existence of a valid first factor, it is not a general factor of personality because it fails to summarize adequately the complete systematic variance in the structure of personality. 相似文献
