Two studies were conducted to test the ability of post-trial amphetamine treatment to improve later recall in a nonaversively motivated task. These studies utilized 8- and 12-arm radial mazes, respectively, with an 11-h retention interval imposed after the rat traversed half the arms of the maze (termed, the to-be-remembered-event, or TBRE). In Experiment 1, the rats were injected with amphetamine (0, .25, and .50 mg/kg) immediately after the TBRE. Because the drug treatment improved retention, a time dependency study was conducted in which the drug (0 and .33 mg/kg) was administered 0, 3, and 6 h after the TBRE. The finding that amphetamine injection at 0, but not 3, h post-trial improved later recall indicates that the benefit derived from the former treatment is not due to proactive influences at the time of the retention test. Drug treatment 6 h post-trial produced a borderline improvement of recall; possible mechanisms are discussed. Two conclusions can be drawn from these results: (1) amphetamine administration can improve recall under conditions in which this effect cannot be attributed to alterations in information processing during either the learning or the retention sessions, indicating that the drug modulates memory storage processes; and (2) amphetamine treatment can improve working memory, thus excluding an alternative interpretation for the previous reports of impaired short-term memory in animals, all of which entailed assessments of working memory. The possibility remains, however, that the impairment seen in these tasks reflects the requirement for erasure of information from previous trials within each daily session, rather than the duration of the retention interval.  相似文献

Psychotherapy research has often been criticized by practitioners who believe that it has little to offer that can be used in professional practice. However, there is increasing evidence to show that contemporary research in psychotherapy is becoming increasingly relevant for practice. In this article, drawing on extensive research experience, I cite examples illustrating this thesis. My collaborators and I have called particular attention to the damaging consequences of communications that are experienced by patients as pejorative, and we believe that the development of therapist's skills in dealing with patients' negative transference should receive particular attention in training programs.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung   In diesem Beitrag wird die Geschichte der psychodynamischen Psychotherapieforschung aus der pers?nlichen Sicht des Autors zusammengefa?t. Der überblick geht aus von grundlegenden Fragen nach der Wirkung von Psychotherapie und der Unterscheidung allgemeiner vs. spezifischer Wirkfaktoren. Mit der Schaffung von Techniken zur Untersuchung des Psychotherapieprozesses entwickelte sich die Forschung auf beeindruckende Weise weiter. In diesen Kontext geh?ren die vom Autor initiierten Vanderbilt-Psychotherapieprojekte, in denen prim?r der Beitrag des Therapeuten zum Behandlungsproze? im Blickpunkt standen. In dem Ausblick auf die Zukunft der Psychotherapie werden einige Desiderate formuliert, welche Ziele die Forschung in einer Zeit ?konomischen Drucks verfolgen sollte.   相似文献

Current pediatric and psychiatric studies on encopresis and its treatment are heavily influenced by mechanical, physiological, and behavioral considerations. Although psychodynamic treatment has generally been considered to be of little benefit, and its findings suspect, the authors suggest that a psychodynamic approach adds substantially to the understanding of some cases of encopresis; that the anal sensations and anal erotic feelings reported by a number of encopretic children are intense, and that the encopretic symptom, soiling, in these children is the result of a conscious form of anal masturbation in which the fecal mass is used for stimulation; and that any study of encopresis is incomplete that does not include what encopretic children, engaged in a sound therapeutic relationship, know and say about their soiling. The authors further suggest that physical treatments of those children whose encopresis is psychologically driven may be contraindicated. The presence of a large stool does not in itself substantiate a physical illness. Further research is needed to elucidate the prevalence of anal masturbation in encopretic children.  相似文献

A vasopressin metabolite, AVP4-9, was injected 1 h prior to retention tests at 1, 6, 11, and 16 days after learning to test the hypothesis that the peptide exerts qualitatively different effects on memory retrieval depending on the accessibility of the memory. The findings provided strong support for this hypothesis: At a retention interval associated with excellent recall in control animals, pretest administration of AVP4-9 (3.0 micrograms/kg) significantly impaired memory, while this same treatment significantly improved recall at an interval associated with poor retention in controls. At retention tests associated with intermediate recall in controls, retrieval was not significantly affected by the peptide treatment. This pattern of results indicates that the peptide treatment is interacting with endogenous changes that correspond to the accessibility of the memory.  相似文献

In this article, I critique the empirically supported treatment (EST) movement and discuss the limitations of traditional psychotherapy research from a psychoanalytic perspective. The EST movement is based on a medical model that assumes that a psychotherapeutic treatment can be conceptualized independent of the human relationship in which it takes place. Psychotherapy and psychoanalysis are, however, treatments only in a metaphorical sense and are more akin to educational processes than medical treatments. Every therapeutic dyad is unique, and research that treats therapy as a standardized, disembodied entity will not contribute to our understanding. Nevertheless, there is a real need for psychoanalysts to become more actively involved in psychotherapy research both for political and scientific reasons. Although I do not believe that “empirical validation” in the form envisaged by the American Psychological Association task force is a realistic goal, I do believe in the value of microscopic studies of therapeutic process, particularly in the context of research-informed case histories.  相似文献
