The Geometry of the Eternal Triangle

Jealousy is often imputed to psychopathology in the protagonist. Psychodynamically, it can be attributed to an ego-deficiency, chronic insecurity, or a deflected libidinal drive. We propose that, when a primary love relationship is threatened, jealousy is best understood from a systems perspective. Three individuals create the experience of jealousy in one of them, which results in a pathogenic "eternal triangle" composed of: the jealous partner who seeks to woo and/or punish an errant mate; the architect of the triangle who takes a lover to supplement the marriage or supplant the mate; and a third person who intrudes across the boundaries of the couple. Therapists must be aware of the role of each agent in order to deal with the volatile, yet highly enduring configuration of the triangle.     

Improving The Measurement of Divergent Thinking Attitudes in Organizations

Three new improved scales measuring three independent divergent thinking attitudes were developed in field research with managers and were labeled “Valuing New Ideas,” “Belief that Creativity is Not for Only a Select Few,” and “Not Feeling Too Busy for New Ideas.” These three scales represent an improvement over three scales initially identified by Basadur and Hausdorf (1996). Two studies were done. The first was a reliability study in which higher internal consistencies and improved understanding and labeling were achieved. The second was a field experiment in which preliminary evidence of external validity of the three scales was established. The scales effectively measured the changes in these attitudes that were expected after training. Opportunities for future research are identified.     

Women in Political Thought

The argument of this paper is that texts in the history of political thought are rather more loquacious on the question of women than has often been supposed. The argument is developed using examples from Plato's Republic, notably the sections on injustice and tyranny. The paper concludes by suggesting the general implications of its approach for the concerns and style of political theory, particularly as to the importance of understanding symbolic and mythic elements in works of political thought.     

Clients As Change Agents: What Color Could My Parachute Be?

Morrill and Forrest (1970) advocate an approach to career counseling (Type 4) that helps clients (a) understand career choice as a developmental process, (b) learn decision-making skills, and (c) become active change agents in their own lives. Referring to the Morrill and Forrest article as a benchmark statement about career counseling, Remer and O'Neill present a decision-making model that encompasses the tenets of Type 4 counseling. The model has 13 sequential steps; the authors indicate the role of the counselor and the objectives for the client at each. The article discusses the potential impact of this self-directed, decision-making model on career counseling. Specific counseling outcomes are discussed along with anecdotal evidence that supports the power of the model to create these outcomes.
