This study assessed relations between exposure to trauma and post-traumatic stress (PTS) symptoms, and whether perceived social support from family and friends and gender moderated these associations. Syrian refugee youth (N = 418, 55.0% female) attending public schools in Jordan participated. Boys reported more age-adjusted PTS symptoms than girls. Analyses revealed that family support and gender moderated the association of trauma on PTS symptoms. For males, the benefits of family support were most evident under conditions of high traumatic stress exposure, while for females, benefits of family support were evident when no loss or injury to family members had been reported. Support from friends was not helpful for either gender. School- or family-based interventions designed to treat PTS symptoms need to consider the different needs of boys and girls, particularly within the Syrian Muslim cultural context.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between religious observance and tobacco use among a sample of Jordanian youth. Using multistage, random sampling, a cross-sectional survey of middle and high school students was conducted. Of the 950 Muslim students in the study, 32 % were daily tobacco users and 72 % prayed regularly. Frequency of praying was negatively associated with tobacco smoking. Religious observance was found to be strongly associated with tobacco smoking among Jordanian youth. Our results indicate that religion can be a culturally important tool in health professionals’ efforts for tobacco control.  相似文献

The work-hardening behaviour of virgin martensitic steel has been investigated in a strictly un-aged state and after various ageing conditions. At room temperature (RT), the un-aged alloy shows astonishing tensile performances (ultimate tensile stress?=?1600?MPa/uniform elongation?=?15%) but unexpected serrations. These serrations can be suppressed by static ageing (at RT or higher) while maintaining the initial work-hardening rate (ageing at RT). Parallel investigations using atom probe tomography reveal that the distribution of carbon at the atomic scale evolves from purely homogeneous for virgin martensite to partly segregated at a very fine scale (5–10?nm) after static ageing. This particular mechanical behaviour can therefore be associated with a very local decrease in available carbon in solid solution due to redistribution and segregations on defects (nanotwins) that occurs rapidly, even after few days at RT.  相似文献

Extended X-ray absorption fine-structure (EXAFS) measurements were undertaken to understand the structural modification of amorphous Ge–Se films that occurs with the addition of Sb. We found that Ge–Ge bonds exist along with Ge–Se bonds in Ge-rich Ge–Se films. These bonds disappear with increasing Se content, to the extent that Ge–Se bonds predominate in stoichiometric GeSe2 films. When Ge is replaced by Sb, stable Sb–Se bonds are formed; concurrently, the proportion of Ge–Ge bonds is decreased at the expense of Ge–Se bonds. As a result, GeSbSe glasses have a more stable and stronger network structure.  相似文献

The present study aimed to identify the role of different factors in menopausal depression in Pakistani women. We hypothesized that physical activity, regular exercise, social support, and attitudes towards aging and menopause would predict menopausal depression in women going through perimenopause. The sample consisted of 110 women (M age = 47.93 years) going through natural perimenopause. The Menopausal Symptoms Scale (Nadeem and Khalid 2012) and Social Support Questionnaire (Sarason et al. 1987) were administered along with a demographic questionnaire. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to analyze the data. The results showed that higher physical activity level, satisfactory relationships with husband, and availability of social support significantly predicted lower menopause-related depression. However, satisfaction with social support did not significantly predict menopausal depression. We also observed that positive attitude towards aging and menopause was significantly correlated with decreased menopausal depression. The implications for the need to promote awareness among health professionals and the general population about menopausal symptoms in Pakistani women to improve their quality of life are discussed.  相似文献
