Summary An attempt was made to examine how the photometric equation: luminance (L)=albedo (A)×illuminance (I) could be solved perceptually when a test field (TF) was not seen as figure, but as ground. A gray disk with two black or white patches was used as the TF. Illuminance of the TF was changed over 2.3 log units and TF albedo was varied from 2.5 to 8.0 in Munsell value. Albedos of the black- and white-appearing patches were 1.5 and 9.5 in Munsell values, respectively. Two types of category judgments for apparent TF lightness (A) and apparent overall illumination (I) were made on the total of 40 TFs (5 illuminances×4 TF-albedos×2 patch-albedos). The results indicated that when the black patches were added to the TF, A was indistinguishable from I and when the white patches were placed on the TF, A and I could be distinguished from each other. The Gelb effect was interpreted as a manifestation of such A–I scission. It was concluded, therefore, that as far as the Gelb effect was observed, the perceptual system could solve the equation, L=A×I, in the sense that for a fixed L, the product of A and I would be constant. 相似文献

Two hundred and fifty-two brightness functions for seven simultaneously presented black, gray, and white squares on black, gray, and white backgrounds approximated power curves with positive exponents when illuminance was varied in seven steps over 1.9 log fL. Mean exponents were significantly larger for whiter vs blacker squares and for squares on the white vs the gray background. Mean exponents also increased more for squares on white than on black or gray backgrounds. Finally, a white replacing a black background elicited increasingly larger décrémentai responses as the squares varied from black to white. ABSTRACT Participants performed a cognitive task under evaluative, self-awareness, and neutral conditions, Task performance was determined jointly by trait test anxiety and situational factors. Test anxiety led to poorer performance in both evaluative and self-awareness situations, relative to the neutral situation. We examined the cognitive activity variables that might mediate the effects of test anxiety and situational variables on performance, and identified a significant cognitive mediator of the main effect of test anxiety, but not for the Test Anxiety x Situation interaction effect. Therefore, the current experiment offered some support for Sarason's (1980) cognitive interference theory, as well as integrating test anxiety and self-awareness research. 相似文献

The 1st purpose of this study was to examine multiple electromyography (EMG) during voluntary hand movements. A secondary purpose was to investigate possible effects of pressure on intracortical inhibition (ICI) and intracortical facilitation (ICF) functions of the motor cortex, using paired-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation. Twelve participants traced a 15-cm diameter target circle using a small laser pointer attached to the right index finger. After 5 acquisition trials, they performed 3 nonpressure trials followed by 3 pressure trials. The results showed that pressure had effects not only on agonist EMG activity but also on multiple muscles, such as synergist. In addition, a decrease in ICI and an increase in ICF were both observed under pressure for muscles other than the agonist. 相似文献

This study investigated how Japanese-speaking learners of English pronounce the three point vowels /i/, /u/, and /a/ appearing
in the first and second monosyllabic words of English noun phrases, and the schwa /ə/ appearing in English disyllabic words.
First and second formant (F1 and F2) values were measured for four Japanese speakers and two American English speakers. The
hypothesis that the area encompassed by the point vowels in the F1-F2 vowel space tends to be smaller for the Japanese speakers
than for the English speakers was verified. The hypothesis that the area formed by the three schwas in chicken{{chick\underline{e}n}}, spoonful{{spoonf{\underline{u}}l}}, and Tarzan{{Tarz\underline{a}n}} is greater for the Japanese speakers than for the English speakers and its related hypothesis were largely upheld. Faceted micropits obtained by electrochemical etching of a single quasicrystal of an Al-Pd-Mn icosahedral phase have been examined by optical and electron microscopy. Anodic etching of the flat surface of a fivefold plane in a solution composed of CH3OH and HNO3(3:1 in volume ratio) reveals a variety of icosahedrally faceted micropits which originated from pre-existing microvoids and etch pits of pentagonal pyramid shape due to the other origins, probably structural defects inside the specimen. As the dissolution progresses, the micropits make successive changes in their shapes, ending in pentagonal pyramids before they vanish. 相似文献

Multiculturalism and color‐blindness represent distinct, and in many ways conflicting, approaches to intergroup relations. We provide a review of the research and theory guiding use of these ideologies as prejudice reduction strategies: Is it best for individuals to ignore category memberships and focus on fundamental human qualities that everyone shares, as color‐blindness would suggest? Or should people adhere to multicultural ideals, recognizing and indeed celebrating differences between groups? After describing these ideologies and their respective theoretical underpinnings, we examine their effects on attitudes, perceptions, and intergroup interaction behavior. We emphasize in particular the link from color‐blindness to self‐focus and prevention orientation and from multiculturalism to an other‐focused learning orientation. Although color‐blindness can have positive effects in the short term, the efforts that it prompts to inhibit and suppress negative responses can be taxing and difficult to sustain. Multiculturalism triggers more positive intergroup attitudes and behavior in nonconflictual circumstances, but has the opposite effect in threatening situations. Nonetheless, because it leads to a focus on learning about others in intergroup situations multiculturalism has the virtue of generally fostering greater attention and responsiveness to outgroup members. 相似文献

We conducted this cross-sectional study among 392 Japanese and 294 Vietnamese mothers who attended routine child health visits
in a Japanese city and at a tertiary hospital in Vietnam, in order to investigate the prevalence and associated sociodemographic,
parenting, and psychological characteristics of low maternal confidence in child rearing among them. All data were collected
from medical files in Japan, and from medical files and self-administered questionnaires in Vietnam. The proportion of mothers
without secure feeling of confidence in the present study was 22% in Japan and 66% in Vietnam. Significant factors associated
with a lack of confidence were first-time motherhood and unintended pregnancy in the Japanese dataset and younger age in the
Vietnamese dataset. In both groups, a higher proportion of mothers who lacked confidence reported negative parenting outcomes
than did confident mothers. Among the three psychological measurements (mood, self-efficacy and depression), higher self-efficacy
was associated independently with a significantly reduced risk of not having confidence in child rearing. These results suggest
the importance of developing parenting support programs to help Japanese and Vietnamese mothers, particularly those who are
young, first-time mothers or who became pregnant unexpectedly, improve their self-efficacy. 相似文献
