Two experiments addressed the question of whether news reports depicting base‐rate data indicative of increasing population size over time would assuage the apprehension and victimization risk associated with another news story depicting frequency increases in a threatening phenomenon during the same time period. Men exposed to the population data manifested lower levels of apprehension and victimization risk than men not exposed to such data, but women showed no reduction in either apprehension and victimization risk than men not exposed to such data, but women showed no reduction in either apprehension or victimization risk after exposure to population data. This interaction was replicated in both experiments. Experiment 2 demonstrated that the same interaction can be produced using base‐rate data other than that depicting population increases over time and that the effects of the base‐rate stories are not merely a product of distraction from the threatening story. Differences in apprehension levels, information processing styles, mathematical problems solving skill, and sex role response sets were considered as alternative explanations for the interaction.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate whether the previously reported effect of chronic restraint stress (CRS) on hippocampal neuron morphology and spine density is paralleled by a similar change in the expression levels of synaptic scaffolding proteins. Adult male Wistar rats were subjected either to CRS (6 h/day) for 21 days or to control conditions. The resulting brains were divided and one hemisphere was impregnated with Golgi-Cox before coronal sectioning and autometallographic development. Neurons from CA1, CA3b, CA3c, and dentate gyrus (DG) area were reconstructed and subjected to Sholl analysis and spine density estimation. The contralateral hippocampus was used for quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and protein analysis of genes associated with spine density and morphology (the synaptic scaffolding proteins: Spinophilin, Homer1-3, and Shank1-3). In the CA3c area, CRS decreased the number of apical dendrites and their total length, whereas CA1 and DG spine density were significantly increased. Analysis of the contralateral hippocampal homogenate displayed an increased gene expression of Spinophilin, Homer1, Shank1, and Shank2 and increased protein expression of Spinophilin and Homer1 in the CRS animals. In conclusion, CRS influences hippocampal neuroplasticity by modulation of dendrite branching pattern and spine density paralleled by increased expression levels of synaptic scaffolding proteins.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to determine the proportion of depression and cognitive sequelae among young (15-30 years) Danish TBI survivors referred to interdisciplinary evaluation through a nationwide government-initiated health initiative. The cross-sectional study is based on data from the “Danish register for young adults with acquired brain injury” on TBI survivors included from October 2013 to December 2016. The main measures were Major depression inventory, Trail making test A and B, Fluency, Word learning with selective reminding, Matrix reasoning, Coding and Glasgow outcome scale - extended (GOS-E). During the study period, 131 young TBI survivors were referred to one of five national outpatient clinics. Ninety-six had complete data and of these 14.6% fulfilled the ICD-10 diagnostic criteria for depression and 34.4% had cognitive sequelae. An association was found between depression and cognitive sequelae (= 0.004). Patients with both depression and cognitive sequelae (n = 10) had a significantly lower mean score on GOS-E (= 0.0001). Depression and cognitive sequelae were frequent and associated with a poorer global functional outcome among young TBI survivors referred within a year after trauma. This finding and the notion that only 20% of the expected TBI population was referred to this nationwide health initiative indicate an unacknowledged need for interdisciplinary follow-up.  相似文献
