When misinformation is rampant, “fake news” is rising, and conspiracy theories are widespread, social scientists have a vested interest in understanding who is most susceptible to these false narratives and why. Recent research suggests Christians are especially susceptible to belief in conspiracy theories in the United States, but scholars have yet to ascertain the role of religiopolitical identities and epistomological approaches, specifically Christian nationalism and biblical literalism, in generalized conspiracy thinking. Because Christian nationalists sense that the nation is under cultural threat and biblical literalism provides an alternative (often anti-elite) source of information, we predict that both will amplify conspiracy thinking. We find that Christian nationalism and biblical literalism independently predict conspiracy thinking, but that the effect of Christian nationalism increases with literalism. Our results point to the contingent effects of Christian nationalism and the need for the religious variables in understanding conspiracy thinking.  相似文献

The Filial Art
ABSTRACT Psychological or political criticism of the parent-child relation presupposes a normative account of that relation. Such an account is here provided. The normative account can shed most light when the parent-child relation is presented recognizably, not in Utopian disguise. The purposes of reasonable people partly depend on their interpretations of those of their parents. This is so whether such people accept or reject any particular parental purposes. The filial art sticks to the project of working out the enacted interpretation—until it gets it approximately right. There is a corresponding parental art, neither compensatory nor sacrificial.  相似文献

This article explores the understudied yet prevalent phenomenon of on‐again/off‐again (on‐off) dating relationships. Study 1 (N= 445 U.S. college students) showed that almost two thirds of participants had experienced an on‐off relationship. Analyses of open‐ended responses about relationship experiences showed on‐off partners were less likely to report positives (e.g., love and understanding from partners) and more likely to report negatives (e.g., communication problems, uncertainty) than partners who had not broken up and renewed. Study 2 (N= 236), employing quantitative measures, substantiated these findings and further showed a greater number of renewals was associated with greater negatives and fewer positives. Results highlight the need for further investigation regarding on‐off relationships, and theories potentially useful in explaining these relationships are discussed.  相似文献

Students with borderline personality disorders are difficult to counsel and present problems in consultation. Providing these students with structure through consistent limit setting can produce positive changes in their behavior.  相似文献

This cross‐sectional study explored associations between attachment style and caregiving patterns in 125 couples with children in the United Kingdom. The Actor–Partner Interdependence Model was used to model for both actor (own) and partner attachment effects on caregiving. Attachment was measured along the dimensions of avoidance and anxiety, and caregiving was measured along the dimensions of proximity, sensitivity, cooperation, and compulsion. Results indicated that different combinations of individual and partner attachment scores predicted different dimensions of caregiving. Own attachment scores best predicted caregiving proximity, cooperation, and compulsion, whereas own and partner attachment predicted caregiving sensitivity. The implications of the findings, limitations, and suggestions for future research are discussed.  相似文献
