Dental education programs are known to be highly stressful and stress can affect general health. The aims were to identify sources of stress among preclinical students and to evaluate their perceived levels of stress, self-efficacy and effective coping strategies in a private dental school. One hundred preclinical students in a Turkish private dental school were surveyed using dental environment stress (DES), perceived stress (PSS), general self-efficacy (G-SES) and brief coping scales (Brief-COPE). Age, gender, history of psychiatric treatment, factors that affected the choice of dentistry, choice rank of dental school, scholarship and income was recorded. ‘Exams and grades’ followed by ‘Fear of failing course or year’ were found to be the most stressprovoking factors. The most and the least stressprovoking DES domains were ‘Workload’ and ‘Social stressors’, respectively. ‘Social stressors’ affected male more than female (p < .05). The most and the least common coping strategies were found to be ‘Planning’, and ‘Drug’, respectively. Female used ‘Instrumental support’ more than male (p < .05). Demographic factors had impact on the perceived stress factors and levels, as well as coping strategies. Unlike previous studies establishing high stress levels in dental students, preclinical students displayed moderate level of stress. Clinical dental education might be more responsible for creating stress.  相似文献

Conclusion The cultural characteristics of any country generally give shape to the educational system. However, no country can assert its own educational system to be wholly indigenous. All the systems come into being as a synthesis of various ingredients of the home country and other countries. And it is quite natural to make use of the experiences and stock of knowledge of the others. This fact is indispensable especially when education is concerned. The curicial problem is to what extent the borrowing process should be used. When the process of borrowing ideas become to take the form of imitation or copy, unexpected results and failure are unavoidable.  相似文献

Honor means “high respect; esteem,” but it has different associations for different cultures. In honor cultures (Turkey), esteem depends on one's own perception of self‐worth and on other people's opinions. In those cultures, honor is easily lost and difficult to regain. In dignity cultures (northern America), esteem mainly depends on the individual and cannot be taken away by others. One way to lose honor in Turkey is through behaviors that may be seen as “potentially improper.” Thus, we expected that posting pictures of such behaviors on Facebook (e.g., at a party; with one's boyfriend/girlfriend) and letting others see them would be less likely in Turkey than in the northern United States. Moreover, we investigated whether honor endorsement was the reason for this difference. We examined participants' posting intentions and actual Facebook behaviors. As expected, Turkish participants were less willing to post and let others (especially their relatives) see their potentially improper pictures compared with northern Americans. Moreover, honor endorsement negatively predicted the willingness to post such pictures only in Turkey, especially for women. This suggests that in honor cultures, the concern for losing honor could be the underlying reason for avoiding social media postings that could be potentially perceived as improper. The structural, elastic and phonon properties of the quaternary CoFeCrZ (Z = Al, Si, Ga and Ge) Heusler alloys have been investigated using the generalized gradient approximation method within density functional theory. The ground-state properties, including, lattice constant and bulk modulus are in good agreement with the available theoretical and experimental data. The elastic constants Cij are computed using the stress–strain technique. The calculated results indicate that CoFeCrZ (Z = Al, Si, Ga and Ge) alloys are ductile materials. Debye temperatures are predicted from calculated elastic constants. The phonon dispersion relations of CoFeCrZ (Z = Al, Si, Ga and Ge) alloys are calculated for the first time using the density functional theory and the direct method with 2 × 2 × 2 supercell.  相似文献

Despite its relevance and potential for explaining various arts consumption phenomena, examination of flow within that context has been limited. This study aims to expand knowledge about arts consumer behaviour by integrating flow construct into an explanatory model that examines the relationships among authenticity of core and peripheral aspects of the arts experience, flow, enjoyment, and intention to recommend. Data were collected from 219 theatre audience members through a self‐administered questionnaire and analysed with structural equation modelling. Results show that authenticity concerning the core product positively influences flow and enjoyment, whereas authenticity of venue is instrumental in providing the audience with enjoyment. Flow experienced in theatre is conducive to enjoyment, which, in turn, has a positive effect on intention to recommend. Managers of arts organisations can make inferences from study findings for developing customer communication and education strategies, designing performing arts venues, and managing customer feedback mechanisms. The main purpose of this study was to report age-based subjective age-of-acquisition (AoA) norms for 600 Turkish words. A total of 115 children, 100 young adults, 115 middle-aged adults, and 127 older adults provided AoA estimates for 600 words on a 7-point scale. The intraclass correlations suggested high reliability, and the AoA estimates were highly correlated across the four age groups. Children gave earlier AoA estimates than the three adult groups; this was true for high-frequency as well as low-frequency words. In addition to the means and standard deviations of the AoA estimates, we report word frequency, concreteness, and imageability ratings, as well as word length measures (numbers of syllables and letters), for the 600 words as supplemental materials. The present ratings represent a potentially useful database for researchers working on lexical processing as well as other aspects of cognitive processing, such as autobiographical memory.  相似文献
