The construction of religious and cultural meaning in Egyptian psychiatric patient charts

The late antique world was particularly conscious of malevolent supernatural power constantly laying in wait to attack and enslave humans. Demons incited vices; they could persuade both their unsuspected and suspected victims to venerate them, and to persecute Christians, and to feel an overwhelming attachment to material things. However, what demons seemed to enjoy the most was taking total control by retiring into a human soul. Today our Western civilisation would not easily recognise anti-social behaviour, mental disorder and a strange illness as signs of demon possession, as it was often the case in late antiquity. Christian ascetics and monks were generally considered a very powerful antidote to demonic possession and they managed to enhance their power and to build great reputations, and attract considerable numbers of admirers (even from the upper classes) and converts to Christianity by successfully handling demons.

ICU谵妄发生率高、识别率低,可显著延长ICU平均住院时间、增加病死率、加重转出ICU后认知功能障碍.但目前缺乏有效的谵妄预防措施.综合干预措施可降低谵妄的发生,其中早期活动是治疗的关键.ICU早期活动安全可行,可降低谵妄的发生及缩短谵妄的持续时间,改善患者预后.ICU中开展早期活动治疗是基于＆quot;ABCDE＆quot;集束化干预措施的前提下,中断镇静后尽早开始肢体功能锻炼和职业治疗,包括从先被动后主动的关节活动,到双腿下垂坐到床缘,进一步下床坐到轮椅上甚至步行活动,是早期活动的基本流程.     

代谢组学在结直肠癌中的研究进展

结直肠癌是常见的恶性肿瘤,近年来其发病率和病死率都很高,因此做到早发现、早诊断、早治疗很有必要,肿瘤标志物在结直肠癌的诊治中发挥了重要作用,但癌胚抗原等传统肿瘤标志物远远不能满足临床需要,代谢组学的出现解决了这一难题.代谢组学是近年来新发展起来的一门组学技术,随着各种代谢组学分析技术的发展和联用,使其在结直肠癌中有着越来越深入的研究,可用此技术在结直肠癌患者的组织、血液和尿液中寻找差异性代谢产物作为新的肿瘤标志物,在结直肠癌的诊断和治疗上有很大优势.本文将对代谢组学的概况及其在结直肠癌中的研究进展做一综述.     

Emotional intelligence influences on the work performance of early career academics: An exploratory study

We aimed to investigate emotional intelligence (EI) influences on the work performance of early career academic (ECA) staff. Participants were 220 early career academic staff at a rural South African university (female = 56.8%, 77.7% aged between 20 and 40 years, black = 89.1%). They completed an emotional intelligence scale as well as a measure of work performance. Results, following structural equation modelling, indicated that perception and regulation of emotion aspects of EI to significantly, positively influence the ECA’s job, interpersonal, non-organisational and hierarchical success. ECA staff high on EI perceived to relate better with others, and to be proactive in their adaptive behaviours when change manifests. The ways in which ECA staff appraise and respond to emotionally charged workplace communication appear to influence their likelihood to succeed in the work adjustment.     

The Impact of Abuse and Learning Difficulties on Emotion Understanding in Late Childhood and Early Adolescence

Children's affective experiences and cognitive abilities have an impact on emotion understanding. However, their relative contribution, as well as the possibility of an interaction between them, has rarely been examined. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of severe abuse and learning difficulties on simple and complex components of emotion understanding in late childhood and early adolescence. A total of 28 older children and young adolescents were selected for the study. Half of the participants had suffered from severe abuse, and half of these abused children additionally had learning disabilities. The remaining half of the sample had no history of abuse but were matched with the abused children on learning difficulties, age and gender. The participants’ emotion understanding was assessed with the Test of Emotion Comprehension (TEC). Results showed that (a) learning difficulties but not abuse had an impact on emotion understanding, (b) there was no interaction effect of abuse and learning difficulties on emotion understanding, and (b) the observed effects of learning difficulties were most apparent for the understanding of relatively complex components of emotion and not for simple components. The results are discussed in terms of their theoretical and practical implications.     

Some questions concerning states of fragmentation: unintegration,under-integration,disintegration, and the nature of early integrations

The paper attempts some clarifications and differentiations concerning (1) Bick's classic distinction between states of helpless unintegration and states of defensive disintegration; (2) the difference between a state and a phase, and Bick's apparent challenge to some aspects of object relations thinking. The paper then lists some types of early pre-depressive and pre-Oedipal integrations and integrators: these include, as well as various kinds of containment, the role of the interested, interesting, and occasionally reclaiming object.
