The aftermath of Caster Semenya’s resounding victory in the women’s 800?m at the 2009 Athletics World Championships in Berlin highlighted the ethical and scientific flaws of gender verification in women’s athletics. It has led the governing international body of professional athletics, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), to adopt new rules regarding athletes with differences of sexual developments (DSDs) in women’s competitions in 2011 (Regulations on Hyperandrogenism). The International Olympic Committee followed suit and adopted a similar set of rules in 2012. Locating the practice of gender verification in a history of sexist stereotyping of women athletes (in Section 1), I argue (in Section 2), following other critics, that the IAAF’s new rules suffer from the same ethical flaws as their predecessors; and specifically that they still invite and rely on qualitative measuring of an athlete’s femininity and masculinity. In the central section of this paper (Section 3), I relate the practice of gender verification to the vexing question of what constitutes an unfair advantage in sports. I suggest, first, that athletes with a DSD should be at liberty to exploit competitive advantages their conditions might confer on them, just as most athletes in most sports are at liberty to exploit their congenital traits (the only irrelevant difference being that DSDs are construed as gendered advantages). In a second step, I argue that gender segregation in sports and gender verification practices cannot both be defended by an appeal to fairness. If we want to preserve gender segregation, then we ought to give up gender verification; and if we are not prepared to give up regulation of gendered congenital advantages, then we ought to give up gender segregation in favor of a classification system that tracks genetic predisposition rather than gender.  相似文献

Los autores revisan la evidencia en favor de la capacidad de representación simbólica en simios, afirmando que todos los programas de lenguaje parten de la misma suposición: considerar signos, lexigramas y fichas de plástico como verdaderos elementos de vocabulario siempre que los simios sean capaces de ejecutar la etiqueta conductual correcta en presencia del correspondiente hecho u objeto. Consideran crucial el problema de la equivalencia entre capacidad de etiquetar y de representar simbólicamente y manifiestan que no se ha desarrollado ningún marco teórico dentro de la psicología animal que permita distinguir respuestas discriminativas condicionadas de respuestas simbólico-representacionales. Afirman que según sus investigaciones recientes la habilidad para utilizar símbolos de forma representativa puede ser alcanzada por chimpancés, pero no es posible deducir de la simple asociación entre etiqueta y objeto la existencia de esta función de representación o simbolización. También abordan la comunicación protolingüística de niños comparándola con la de chimpancés y desarrollan el concepto de verdadera simbolización, concluyendo que los estudios sobre el lenguaje de los simios han fracasado a la hora de obtener la verdadera simbolización en parte debido a que se han centrado casi exclusivamente en el aspecto de la producción, descuidando la competencia receptiva.  相似文献

Resumen

Se describen las características diferenciales de la población de niños con puntuaciones altas (≥19) y bajas (≤5) en el Children's Depression Inventory (Kovacs, 1983) a partir de la información de distintas fuentes. Se evaluaron 148 niños de 4.o de EGB de los cuales 68 presentaban puntuaciones ≤5 y 80 presentaban puntuaciones ≥19, respecto a nivel de depresión, estilo atribucional, variables cognitivas y rendimiento escolar. Los niños con puntuaciones altas versus los de puntuaciones bajas presentaban mayor severidad de la sintomatología depresiva, un estilo atribucional más depresógeno, menor rendimiento en los subtests de inteligencia que evalúan cierre perceptivo, formación de conceptos no verbales y comprensión de la lectura, su rendimiento escolar fue inferior, tuvieron más problemas de conducta según informaron los padres, eran menos felices según el profesor y menos populares y más deprimidos según sus compañeros.  相似文献

El objetivo de este artículo es realizar una revisión teórica acerca de las preocupación es y problemas de los padres de niños enfermos y hospitalizados, para procurar evitar un contagio emocional negativo y, así, optimar, cuando sea posible, la experiencia de enfermedad y hospitalización.

Estimamos que si estudiamos, analizamos y conocemos los miedos y ansiedades de los hijos y de sus padres ante la enfermedad y la hospitalización infantil, podremos modificar, en la medida de lo posible, aspectos del contexto clínico que provoquen estrés innecesario; o, podemos incluir ayudas médicas, psicológicas, sociales y educativas que favorezcan la adaptación a la hospitalizaci ón.  相似文献

The author proposes the development of systems learning guidebooks to accompany famous children's classic books. Children's classic books can make excellent bases for children's learning guidebooks on systems thinking and global ecology, because they are fun to read and well known worldwide. If such learning guidebooks are properly designed with humor and entertaining aspects, they could stimulate children to learn more about systems thinking. Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is chosen as a pilot case for developing such a children's guidebook. The systems learning guidebook that accompanies Alice's Wonderland shall be entitled Alice in Systems Wonderland and will help its readers look at the Alice's Wonderland story with a systems perspective.  相似文献

This article analyzes some important aspects of socioeconomic and political development of the world in the near future. The future always stems from the present. The first part of the article is devoted to the study of some crucial events of the present, which could be regarded as precursors of forthcoming fundamental changes. In particular, it is shown that the turbulent events of late 2010 and 2011 in the Arab World may well be regarded as a start of the global reconfiguration. The article also offers an analysis of some aspects of the global financial system that, according to the authors, notwithstanding all its negative points, performs certain important positive functions including the “insurance” of social guaranties at the global scale. The second part of the article considers some global scenarios of the World System's new future and describes a few characteristics of the forthcoming “Epoch of New Coalitions.” The article attempts to answer such questions as the following: What are the implications of the economic weakening of the United States as the World System center? Will the future World System have a leader? Will it experience a global governance deficit? Will the world fragmentation increase?  相似文献

SUMMARY

Psychological theory-building has long been dominated by White, European-male perspectives, perspectives that fail to account for the multifaceted experiences of diverse and marginalized populations. Feminist theory seeks to explore, encompass, and understand the wide range of human experience, a territory that is viewed as broad and complex and dynamic. Relational-Cultural Theory as it addresses the critical importance of relational exchange related to development and health provides an elaboration of some of the most basic feminist principles. Perhaps not surprisingly, this evolving theoretical model has emerged out of the relational work of five women and continues now within an ever-expanding and diverse network of women. This paper will present several elements of this work, its relevance to the larger work of feminist theory, and some of the major contributions of the founding “Monday Night Group.”  相似文献

A society undergoing rapid change, which doubts its own possibilities of survival, calls into question the worth of psychoanalytical theory and practice. The author emphasizes that the Ferenczian clinical evolution could be a source of inspiration for reinvigorating our trust in the prodromes of the Freudian paradigm, and thus for relaunching the authoritativeness of our thought and our psychotherapeutic method. In this light the author examines the affective and cognitive qualities that render Ferenczi a mentor of our possible future development, taking into consideration the following aspects: the communicative and intersubjective perspective that denotes Ferenczi's thought since his first writings; the receptive, reflective, and self‐reflective capacities which have progressively accompanied his own commitment and clinical attitude; and his elective work on trauma and “the traumatic”, including the algogenic messages transmitted during the healing process by analysts in fear (and perhaps terror) of their own regression and countertransferential catastrophe. In particular, these last events (central in the Ferenczian vision) are today specifically stimulated by new forms of pathology which search for, with our help, a resolution of the apathetic pain and the tearing apart of the identity that characterize the suffering of patients.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We examined the effects of a new Immersive Reminiscence Therapy (IRT) programme on cognitive function, including autobiographical memory, in a sample Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients. A total of 43 AD patients with mild to moderate disease severity were randomly assigned to either an intervention group (n?=?22, MMMSE?=?20.77), or a control group (n?=?21, MMMSE?=?19.24). The intervention group received one weekly group-based session of IRT for five weeks in an authentic 1950s style museum environment, matching the time of the participants’ youth. IRT included semi-structured conversations about the past. The control group received standard care. We assessed performance on cognitive function and autobiographical memory at baseline and post-intervention. Five weeks of IRT enhanced subsequent autobiographical memory performance, when participants were cued by concrete objects dated to their youth. Object-cued memories reported post intervention included a significantly higher degree of episodic details and higher word counts. The intervention showed no effect on the Autobiographical Memory Interview or word-cued recall. Global cognitive function and semantic autobiographical memory performance increased across time for both groups. Our findings demonstrate that immersion into a setting, rich on concrete cues dated to the participants’ youth can improve autobiographical remembering.  相似文献
