Nanotechnology seems to be a new “key-discipline”, which should lead to basic changes in many areas of living and producing.
This estimation is questioned by a comparison with established technologies, which reach from heat engines to biotechnology.
In this line it is possible to come to a more realistically assessment of nanotechnology. “Technologies” in the narrower sense
are understood as techniques based scientifically and integrated systematically into a network. The development of these technologies
starts first in the early modern times. Before this background the established technologies are characterised looking at relevant
questions and problems, the role of researchers and inventors, the importance of theoretical foundations, important applications
and innovations, as well as the relevance of visions and then confronted with nanotechnology in its present state. It is accentuated
that there are no explicit theories and no specific applications of nanotechnology and it seems to be only a kind of chemical
technology.

ABSTRACT— Most research on perceptual–motor development has focused on changes occurring during infancy and toddlerhood. In this paper, we describe our work on the development of perceptual–motor development during late childhood and early adolescence in the context of an important applied problem: bicycling across traffic-filled roads. Specifically, we have examined the gaps between cars that children and adults accept when bicycling across intersections, using an immersive, interactive bicycling simulator. This work highlights both methodological advances in using immersive, interactive virtual environments to study perceptual–motor functioning as well as theoretical advances in understanding the problem of moving the self in relation to other moving objects. We assessed the effects of individually defined small, medium, and large periods of presession access to edible and nonedible reinforcers on response rates during sessions in which responding produced access to identical reinforcers. The generalized matching equation is a robust and empirically supported means of analyzing relations between reinforcement and behavior. Unfortunately, no simple task analysis is available to behavior analysts interested in using the matching equation to evaluate data in clinical or applied settings. This technical article presents a task analysis for the use of Microsoft Excel to analyze and plot the generalized matching equation. Using a data‐based case example and a step‐by‐step guide for completing the analysis, these instructions are intended to promote the use of quantitative analyses by researchers with little to no experience in quantitative analyses or the matching law. 相似文献

This article is a reply to the three reviews of my book What Things Do: Philosophical Reflections on Technology, Agency, and Design (Verbeek 2005) in this symposium. It discusses the remarks made by the reviewers along five lines. The first is methodological and concerns
the question of how to develop a philosophical approach to technology. The second line discusses the philosophical orientation
of the book, and the relations between analytic and continental approaches. Third, I will discuss the metaphysical aspects
of the book, in particular the nature and value of the non-modernist approach it aims to set out. Fourth, I will discuss the
social and political relevance of the book. Fifth, this will bring me to some concluding remarks about how the postphenomenological
perspective developed in the book relates to liberalism, focusing on its suggestions to deliberately design our material environment
in terms of mediation.

Preservice teachers learn evidence-based practices in university classrooms but often fail to use them later on in their own
K-12 classrooms. The problem may be a missing link in teacher preparation, i.e., failure to teach preservice teachers to generalize
newly acquired techniques. Two experiments using multiple baseline designs across participants assessed effectiveness of a
model to promote generalization and maintenance of a specific teaching skill. In Experiment 1, preservice teachers’ maintenance
of behavior deteriorated from practicum to student teaching when intervention consisted of training to criteria alone. When
a programming for generalization component (program common stimuli) was added to the intervention, teachers in Experiment
2 generalized and maintained behavior across settings (student teaching to own classrooms) at a higher average than occurred

Nano-ethics as NEST-ethics: Patterns of Moral Argumentation About New and Emerging Science and Technology 总被引:6,自引:3,他引:3
There might not be a specific nano-ethics, but there definitely is an ethics of new & emerging science and technology (NEST),
with characteristic tropes and patterns of moral argumentation. Ethical discussion in and around nanoscience and technology
reflects such NEST-ethics. We offer an inventory of the arguments, and show patterns in their evolution, in arenas full of
proponents and opponents. We also show that there are some nano-specific issues: in how size matters, and when agency is delegated
to smart devices. Our overall approach is a pragmatist ethics, and we conclude that struggle (and learning) might be more
productive than models emphasizing consensus.

Community-building initiatives strive to involve residents as the drivers of the change process, involving them in an array of activities including collective action efforts. Recent evaluations of many of these initiatives, however, suggest that developing the levels of resident involvement needed in such efforts is challenging. This study examines the neighborhood conditions that are related to whether and how much residents become involved in individual activism and collective action efforts. A random-digit-dial phone survey of 460 residents in 7 distressed neighborhoods suggested that while demographic variables were relatively unimportant, resident perceptions of neighborhood readiness (i.e., hope for the future and collective efficacy) and capacity for change (i.e., social ties and neighborhood leadership), and the level of neighborhood problems were strongly related to whether and how much residents were involved in individual and collective action efforts. Moreover, different elements of these neighborhood conditions were more or less important depending on the type and level of resident involvement. For example, while perceptions of neighborhood problems was the strongest predictor of whether an individual became involved at all, perceived strength of neighborhood leadership was the strongest predictor of an individual's level of activity. The implications of these findings for practitioners and scientists are discussed. 相似文献
